Detroit Fatal Motorcycle Accident

A 40 year old biker suffered fatal injuries in a Detroit motorcycle accident last night.  Police report that Rochelle Ringo was travelling on Gratiot when a van turned into her path and caused the accident.  The driver left the scene of this hit and run accident.  Detroit police are following up leads to find the driver.

It am always amazed at the indifference of a person who could be involved in such an accident and leave the scene without knowing if the accident victim will survive.  I certainly hope that the driver is caught and brought to justice.  My thoughts go out to this woman’s family.

The surviving family may have a number of legal rights to pursue, even though the negligent driver has not yet been identified.  This could include claims for funeral expenses, lost income, and the loss of this woman’s companionship.  There are deadlines for filing these claims and it is important to hire a Michigan motorcycle accident lawyer as soon as possible to look into all possible claims.

If you would like more information about your rights after a Michigan motorcycle accident, you can order our FREE book, “The Ultimate Michigan Motorcycle Handbook” by clicking on the book link. We will send it out immediately along with other important information.

Monroe County Motorcycle Accident

The Monroe County Sherrif’s Department is investigating a Monroe County Motorycle Accident that caused the death of Hollis W. Hurst, from Maybee, Michigan.  The accident occurred just before 8:00 p.m. when he was struck by a 1996 Pontiac driven by a 17 year old.  Fortunately, alchohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.  Mr. Hollis was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

I am sorry that this tragic accident occurred.  It is important that victims of motorcycle accidents be aware of their legal rights.  Mr. Hollis’ family may have a claim for Michigan No-Fault Insurance Benefits as a result this accident.  This will depend on the type of insurance that he purchased for his motorcycle.  If he did have the proper insurance, it would pay for funeral expenses, lost wages for three years, replacement services for three years, and perhaps some other benefits.  If the police investigation determines that the driver of the Pontiac was at fault for the accident, the family of Mr. Hollis may have a wrongful death lawsuit against that driver.  Typically, a claim against the driver and the owner of the car is made against the insurance companies.

Allegan County Fatal Motorcycle Accident Sentencing

A Kalamazoo woman was sentenced to ten days in jail for her involvement in a Michigan motorcycle accident that killed two bikers back on January 15, 2009.  The accident occurred in Allegan County and was caused when 25 year old Brooke Fahnddrich allegedely pulled in front of a motorcycle driven by Randy Ray of Ludington, Michigan.  His wife Linda Ray was also on the bike.  Both died in the accident.

Ms. Fahndrich was charged with the misdemeanor of attempted negligent homicide and pled to the offense.  In addition to the criminal charges, she may also face a civil lawsuit brought by family members of the bikers.  This would be a Michigan Wrongful Death lawsuit arising from the motorcycle accident.  Hopefully, Ms. Fahndrich had insurance on her vehicle so that the family can recover some compensation for their tragic loss.

Dunlop Tire Causes Motorcycle Death, Suit Alleges

A Montana motorcycle accident lawsuit was filed alleging that a defective Dunlop motorcycle tire caused the death of a motorcycle club member and seriously injured his wife in a 2007 motorcycle accident.  The lawsuit alleges that the tire suddenly deflated, causing the biker to lost control of his motorcycle and ejecting both the driver and his passenger wife.  Both were active members of the local Harley Davidson club and the driver was recognized as a biking safety advocate and expert.
